Seven Secrets of Shiva by Devdutt Pattanaik

For those of us in western culture, trying to find an easy access point into eastern religion can be challenging.  I went into this with some basic knowledge of Hinduism, but I’m learning that the more I learn, the more there is to learn, even at the basic story level.  This book helps a great deal on that front.  It covers many, many stories, and along the way it explains what those stories mean, which symbols translate to which ideas, and so on.  As the title suggests, this is more Shiva-centric, which all things considered, that’s an excellent starting point for those looking to learn more about Hinduism.

The downside with audio is that if you don’t know what the various Sanskrit words and names are, you might have problem with them.  The plus side, you hear how they’re pronounced, so there’s a give and take here.
