I tend not to report much news on this site. I only blog about the things that matter most to me. This one is near and dear to my heart.
According to various sites around the web that I’ve been seeing, it’ll be translated into a TV mini-series by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail sometime after that series is completed. So we’re looking at a few years before they start production. Producer Thomas Schühly got the rights to Metropolis back in 2007, before the film was restored to its current version. According to reports, the mini-series will have a $10 million budget per episode, putting it on par with the likes of Game of Thrones.
Needless to say, I’ve got mixed feelings about this. On one hand, a mini-series would give them the chance to really explore ideas that are only hinted at in the film and bring the city to full life. On the other hand… will they stay true to the core themes in play from the original? Seems to me they resonate more than ever, certainly here in the States. I suppose time will tell. Here’s me taking a “wait and see” attitude.
