It seems sad news stops for no one, so I’m jumping in here before the road trip begins to pay my condolences to a voice acting legend. June Foray has passed on at age 99.
No one can say she didn’t have a good, long run of it, and no one can say she didn’t touch lives. She is, to my mind, as legendary as Mel Blanc, and just as loved for her characters. I grew up with her work, sometimes never even knowing it was her. She’s perhaps most famous as Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Natasha on The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. For Looney Tunes she was Granny and Witch Hazel, to say nothing of the veritable sea of uncredited voices she did. She was Weezy and Lena Hyena on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jokey Smurf. Betty Rubble. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The list just goes on. Without her, the world of cartoons just isn’t the same.
My heart goes out to all those she left behind. The legacy she leaves with us is priceless.
