Batman: Gotham by Gaslight by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola (Hellboy) was the first title DC released under the Elseworlds imprint. As much as I enjoyed (and demanded) continuity and characterization to maintain quality of character, the Elseworlds titles were something special when they were done right. This one set the standard.
On one hand, I’m excited for this animated adaptation. On the other, it didn’t turn out so well for The Killing Joke when they expanded it. Time will tell, but with Bruce Timm at the helm, I’m certainly willing to give it a shot. Catwoman was most definitely not in the original, but so far I’m liking how she translates here to the Victorian era.
